Below is a chart that explains the leveling system in the world of Ahrivia. The experience you gain while adventuring through the wilds and negotiating with nobles is cumulative. As you gather more, your character will progress through this chart, unlocking different skills and abilities along the way. Now, let it be said that your level does not necessarily reflect your characters strength compared to another.
In many video games or potentially on other role playing environments, a level 20 character is stronger than a level 10 character. Here on Ahrivia that might not be so. Your level does not gain you an outright advantage over another character as everyone is technically equal regardless of level. What does separate you though is the higher level you are the more possible skills or spells you might have. This of course does provide a higher level character with more variety or more powerful abilities, but does not promise them a win against someone of lower level.
Getting back to the chart below, each level has a corresponding amount of experience that must be gained in order to achieve that respective level. For each level gained you gain one skill point. These skill points can be used to purchase skill levels, either martial or magical. Novice and Journeyman skill levels cost 1 skill point each, while Expert and Master level skill levels cost 2 skill points. These points can be saved and spent as each member sees fit, but for a particular skill tree you must move up through each step to reach the next. Example – If you are looking to increase your proficiency with a short sword you must first unlock the Novice level, then Journeyman followed by Expert and finally Master.
Journeyman level skills and beyond grant you access to more powerful abilities, there are certain level requirements before you may spend skill points to obtain them. The second chart, on the far right, identifies the level you must reach before unlocking various skill tiers. I would like to point out these levels are different for martial skills compared to magical ones. The charts directly below this paragraph explains the purchasing of skills.
Weapon and Magic skill levels can be purchased multiple times in order to learn additional skills or spells in the chosen rank.
*One thing to be noted, is the experience required to level on Ahrivia may appear daunting at first. However, the reason for the experience required is to reflect the type of site Ahrivia is. In terms of rp, we strive to be casual and story focused instead of a level race to the top. Keep that in mind when viewing the table below.
